An article, which does not appear on line, from the Wimmera Mail-Times on Wednesday the 27th of June, indicates that the opening of the WIFT has been postponed until August 8 as the original date (June 28) clashed with a sitting of Federal Parliament which would have prevented some politicians from attending.

The article also notes that a rail safety company has been engaged to undertake testing of the rail component of the site including the ’tracks, switch gear, electronics and the railway crossings on roads’ and that after approval from railway authorities the commissioning is anticipated to occur on the weekend of July 7 and 8.’

Wimmera Container Lines, who have a 30 year lease, hope to take over operations on the site at the end of July.
