QUBE's new Horsham Goods Service Commences

QUBE Logistics commenced their new intermodal service between Horsham and Melbourne at the end of October.

The first train departed Melbourne on the evening of Wed.31.10 consisting of GL105 hauling 23 container wagons, and the trains operate with ARTC train numbers 9719V and 7920V.

Unlike the SCT hauled trains that now service the new Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal (WIFT) at Dooen, QUBE have taken over the former Wimmera Container Line's terminal at the Horsham railway yards, which has caused some issues with local residents and City councillors who believed that the site in the middle of the city would no longer be used for this purpose.

SCT continue to service the WIFT with their daily services which are currently hauled by a single CSR class locomotive. - Fri 2 Nov 2012

Freight move upsets Horsham leaders
- Wednesday 31st October 2012

Horsham residents have voiced their shock and disappointment at the prospect of rail freight returning to the city.

The third weekend of April (Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st) saw the unique occurance of three trains, run by three different operators, serviceing the Wimmera Container Lines terminal at Horsham.

New operator to this service, SCT, ran their train with CSR006, the regular QUBE service was hauled by S311, 8037 and 8030 and one of the irregular trip run by El Zorro had EL54 and S300 up front. - Sun 23 Apr 2012

The first Horsham goods service to be run by SCT departed Melbourne on the evening of Wed.18.4 and returned to Melbourne late the follwoing afternoon. The train consisted of nine container wagons and as expected it was hauled by locomotive CSR006 (SCT).

It would appear that for the moment at least two operators will be servicing this location as QUBE also ran their train to Horsham on the same day, hauled by S311 (CFCLA) and 8030 (QUBE) - Thurs 19 Apr 2012

The rumours of a new operator on the Horsham rail freight service strengthened from Tues.27.3 when SCT ran one of their new Chinese-built CSR class locomotives, CSR006, light engine from Melbourne to Dimboola and back to stable at Horsham for crew familiarisation purposes. The locomotive then returned to Melbourne, still light engine, early the next morning.

This pattern has been repeated on the three following Tuesdays - the 3rd, 10th and 17th of April - and there was an additional return trip which departed Melbourne on the evening of Wed.11.4 and returned from the west the following afternoon.

It is anticipated that SCT will start servicing the Wimmera Container Lines terminal at Horsham as early as next month although it is unclear if this is in addition to the current QUBE service which operates six days per week or will replace QUBE and the sole operator. - Wed 18 Apr 2012
