Update on the progress of works at Inverleigh ARTC issued the following update on Wednesday (16 November 2022) regarding the progress of the cleanup following the derailment near Inverleigh and the anticipated timetable for re-opening the line. Repair works have now commenced at the train derailment site at Inverleigh (30km west of Geelong) in Victoria. Weather permitting and following appropriate commissioning, ARTC expects the track will re-open next Tuesday – although this will be confirmed in the coming days. ARTC has more than fifty workers and multiple crews on-site, working around the clock to reconnect Australia’s east-west rail freight corridor. A key achievement has been the removal of wagons and containers off the track, and work has already started on rebuilding the northern end of the line. Over 1,500 new concrete sleepers have been delivered on site, along with over 2,500 tonnes of rock ballast. Heavy machinery, including excavation vehicles are now working to repair one kilometre of track. ARTC extends its thanks to the community and freight customers for their patience and understanding as works are carried out. |
